Saudi Arabia – New and updated EEL and EER requirements announced by SASO

SASO has published on their official website the updates of EEL (Energy Efficiency Label) and EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) requirements related to the modification of SASO standard specification 2663/2007 for “Energy labeling and minimum energy performance requirements for air-conditioners” and the modification of the list of energy efficiency labels for electrical equipment. 

As announced, the mandatory application of these amendments starts from the 07th of September 2013. Therefore, no shipment will be allowed to enter the Saudi territory after this date, if the related products don’t comply with the new requirements.

Modification of the Saudi standard specification (2663/2007) for "the requirements of energy labels and minimum energy efficiency for air conditioners" and modification of the list of energy efficiency labels for electric appliances

The Board of Directors of SASO has conducted his meeting numbered (141) on the 12th of Safar 1434H. (26/12/2012), decisions issued by the Board are :

  • Adopt the amendment of the mandatory Saudi standard specification (2663/2007) for "the requirements of energy labels and minimum energy efficiency for air conditioners” the amendment is applicable after six months from the date of publication in the Official Gazette. One of the important  amendments that were adopted was raising the minimum Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) for air conditioners, the mandatory application of these limits starts from the date 1/11/1434H. (07/9/2013).
  • Adopt an update and modification of the list of energy efficiency labels for electric appliances, applicable after six months from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
